Recovery of Kidney Function Among Patients With Glomerular Disease Starting Maintenance Dialysis

Glomerular disease is the third leading cause of kidney failure in the United States, with patients who tend to be young and often progress to needing an urgent start of dialysis.1,2 For some, immunosuppression may be continued in hopes of recovery of kidney function and dialysis discontinuation (henceforth termed recovery).3 The incidence of recovery among patients with kidney failure of all causes has been reported to range from 0.9% to 5%-6%.4,5 However, there are sparse data5,6 regarding the chances of recovery in glomerular disease.
