Can We Assess Interventions to Prevent Kidney Disease?
We are laying one brick at a time in building prediction models for chronic kidney disease (CKD). The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines 3 levels of CKD prevention.1 Primary prevention aims to reduce incident CKD in the context of the primary care setting. Secondary and tertiary prevention efforts are focused on slowing CKD progression and improving outcomes in those with kidney failure, respectively, and are typically the domain of nephrologists. The nephrology literature on prediction models has predominantly focused on informing care aimed at secondary and tertiary prevention.
