Characteristics Associated With Peritoneal Dialysis Technique Failure: Are We Asking the Right Questions?
The incident peritoneal dialysis (PD) population has been slowly increasing in the United States over the last few years.1 This new interest in PD may be attributed to greater awareness and comfort with home dialysis in the US nephrology community, efforts to improve support for home-based patients, or, importantly, modification to the payment system with the adoption of the bundled payment system in 2011. Despite this greater interest in PD, technique survival remains relatively short, with just 50% of patients still receiving PD 2 years after initiation.
