In March 2018, the American Journal of Kidney Diseases (AJKD) created a year-long Editorial Internship program for nephrology fellows interested in research, education, medical editing, and scholarly writing. To our knowledge, within the field of nephrology, AJKD was the first journal to launch this kind of initiative and we were fortunate to be selected as the inaugural class of interns. This editorial is a description of our experience, including lessons we learned and our advice for prospective applicants.
