Transplant Center Volume: Is Bigger Better?

Nephrologists are frequently tasked with the difficult decision of which transplantation center(s) are most appropriate for their patients considering kidney transplantation. Patient- (eg, medical/surgical comorbid conditions, distance to the transplantation center, and personal resources available) and center- (eg, average time on waitlist, aggressiveness, and postoperative outcomes) level factors all affect this crucial decision. However, the balance between these factors is often difficult to navigate with limited data to support these decisions.
