A 69-year-old man was admitted for elective surgery for resection of a brain mass due to metastatic melanoma. He had a history of prostate cancer treated with resection 6 years ago and resection of a small-bowel carcinoid tumor that had recurred with peritoneal nodules. Nephrology was consulted for evaluation of persistent hypokalemia and metabolic alkalosis.
