In Reply to ‘Assessing the Effect of Spironolactone on Acute Kidney Injury After Cardiac Surgery’
We read with interest the letter by Zhang et al.1 Recognizing that our study2 has some important limitations, we would like to respond to the specific concerns of Zhang et al. First, all patients had aspirin therapy discontinued 5 to 7 days prior to surgery. Although we do not have information about aspirin use before this time, it should be noted that the scarce evidence that has associated aspirin use with acute kidney injury (AKI) included patients with acetylsalicylic acid use within 5 days of the procedure.
