Dr Schiffl1 recognizes several important findings in our study: namely, the high mortality after acute kidney injury (AKI) of all stages even outside of intensive care, the diminishing excess mortality over time, and the scarcity of long-term renal replacement therapy without pre-existing chronic kidney disease (CKD).2
