Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus, and the presence of CKD in people with diabetes portends a significantly worse prognosis.1-4 Expanding on previous work from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) that reported on the prevalence of kidney disease among persons with diabetes in the United States,5 a recent study delves further into nuances in the trends in the prevalence of diabetic kidney disease and clinical manifestations of CKD that were not previously recognized.
