Establishing Evidence for the Future of Kidney Disease Education

The provision of kidney disease education for those at risk, and especially for those with chronic kidney disease (CKD), is a necessary and important part of clinical care. CKD-specific education facilitates informed shared decision making and promotes optimal self-care, both of which are essential to preventing the progression of kidney disease and ameliorating its complications.1 Like any intervention, patient-focused education requires an ongoing commitment of resources. These resources include personnel, time, financial support, physical space, and emotional dedication of clinical and research champions to develop, deploy, and maintain education efficacy.
