We read with great interest the study by Li et al., which investigated the longitudinal trajectories of serum prealbumin and their association with mortality in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis.1 This study meaningfully advances the concept of trend-based nutritional monitoring in dialysis care by shifting attention from single baseline measurements to longitudinal nutritional kinetics. Building on these important findings, we believe that further clarification of the temporal relationship between prealbumin trajectories and mortality may enhance the interpretation and clinical applicability of this work.
