Health-Related Quality of Life After Living Kidney Donation: Insights From a Contemporary Meta-Analysis
Living kidney donors (LKDs) undergo a surgery that does not offer them any direct medical benefit, and in fact, carries some risk. As transplant professionals evaluating LKD candidates, the discussion is often focused on individual outcomes, eg, perioperative mortality, end-stage kidney disease, and hypertension, and whether the risk is increased as a result of the donation surgery. However, measuring patient-centered metrics such as health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in LKDs is crucial for understanding the full impact of donation, beyond traditional medical outcomes.
