Response to Letter to the Editor: Lack of Association Between Dietary Fiber Intake and Kidney Failure Among Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease: The Chronic Kidney Disease-Japan Cohort Study
We sincerely thank Dr. Chen and colleagues for their interest in our article, “Lack of Association Between Dietary Fiber Intake and Kidney Failure Among Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease: The Chronic Kidney Disease–Japan Cohort Study.”1 We agree with their comment that the very low dietary fiber intake in our cohort (median 10.4 g/day) may be the primary reason for the lack of association between dietary fiber intake and kidney outcomes. As discussed in our paper, such low intake likely reflects the traditional restriction of fruits and vegetables among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).
