Vaccines as a Core Conversation in Nephrology
Nephrologists understand that chronic kidney disease (CKD) confers higher risks for poor outcomes when our patients are battling an infection.1 We may, however, fail to convey the nature and severity of these risks to our patients. More immediate matters such as blood pressure or anemia may occupy our clinical encounters. As public trust in vaccination erodes, nephrologists will need to employ a more active approach to counsel our patients about their risks for infection and the critical role of vaccines in preventing serious illness.
