Dialysis-Friendly Snack and Sack Lunch Ideas for Skilled Nursing Facilities
Over 1.2 million people reside in roughly 15,000 certified skilled nursing facilities in the United States.1 Of those, more than 625,000 residents are treated with maintenance hemodialysis.2 Many of the residents treated with maintenance hemodialysis are admitted to skilled facilities for short-term stays to rehabilitate posthospitalization.2 These dialysis patients tend to be older, have more comorbid conditions, and are at greater risk of mortality and repeat hospitalization.2 Compared to community dwelling people on maintenance hemodialysis, patients in skilled-facilities have higher mortality and hospitalizations, which impacts the Dialysis Facilities Report.
