As our understanding of the serious detrimental impacts of heat and particle pollution on kidney health deepens, Earth’s temperature—and the accompanying extreme weather that can threaten delivery of health care—continues to rise. Health systems are unintentional contributors to this crisis, responsible for 4.4% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions globally.1 As a growing number of nations commit to sustainable, low carbon health systems, it becomes increasingly evident that sectoral approaches to “net zero” health delivery must support this transition.
