Inflammation: A Key Driver in the Progression of CKD
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are major global health challenges that frequently coexist and potentiate each other’s progression. Their interrelationship is driven by shared risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes, alongside bidirectional mechanisms where each condition accelerates the other. Inflammation is a central player in the pathogenesis of both ASCVD and CKD and has been increasingly recognized as a driver of adverse clinical outcomes.
