Centers for Nutritional Care: A Further Step to Improve Health-care Quality in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease
Nutritional treatment is increasingly recognized to play a critical role in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Substantially, all expert groups and clinical practice guidelines recommend dietary management for people with CKD1-3 and agree that effective implementation of nutritional advice requires the involvement of specialty-trained renal dietitians.4 Both the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative2 of the National Kidney Foundation and the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism4 recommendations underscore the essential role played by renal dietitians in personalized nutritional therapy, as well as in routine nutritional assessment.
