Suicide in Patients Treated With Dialysis: Risk Factors and Trends in the United States
The incidence of suicide in the United States has increased significantly over the past 20 years, with an alarming rise among youth.1 Two decades ago, a study showed that patients treated with dialysis in the United States had a 1.84-fold higher incidence of suicide compared to the general population.2 The objective of this study was to describe rates of suicide and identify its risk factors in a contemporary cohort of patients receiving dialysis.
