Some Essential Issues Regarding the Nutritional Status of Patients at Peritoneal Dialysis Initiation
We were inspired by Silva et al.’s cross-sectional observational study,1 which enrolled 47 peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. The study compared nutritional status within 30 days of dialysis initiation between 2 PD initiation patterns: unplanned (n = 29, starting PD up to 72 hours of peritoneal catheter implantation) and planned (n = 18, starting PD ≥ 7 days postimplantation with ≥90 days of predialysis follow-up). The unplanned group showed unfavorable clinical and nutritional markers compared to the planned group.
