Longitudinal Change in Small Solute Clearance Measurement in Patients Receiving Peritoneal Dialysis
Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a cost-effective home-based treatment for kidney failure.1,2 Traditionally, small solute clearance in PD is evaluated by the total weekly Kt/V(urea), usually within 6 months of PD initiation and then every 4-6 months.3 However, the evidence for a specific Kt/V(urea) target is weak, and the procedure is cumbersome. Recent guidelines of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) emphasize a person-centered and goal-directed approach without specific clearance targets,4 raising questions about the need for frequent monitoring.
