Longitudinal Change in Small Solute Clearance Measurement in Patients Receiving Peritoneal Dialysis
Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a cost-effective home-based treatment for kidney failure [1,2]. Traditionally, small solute clearance in PD is evaluated by the total weekly Kt/V(urea), usually within 6 months of PD initiation and then every 4 to 6 months [3]. However, the evidence for a specific Kt/V(urea) target is weak, and the procedure of is cumbersome. Recent guidelines of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) emphasize a person-centered and goal directed approach without specific clearance targets [4], raising questions about the need of frequent monitoring.
