From 2000 to 2023, the number of kidney transplant recipients in the United States has doubled (13,631 in 2000 to 23,314 in 2024).1 Although there have been significant improvements in long-term graft survival, many recipients will ultimately experience kidney allograft failure.2,3 Given the significant growth in kidney transplantation, careful management of this population will be an increasing imperative. While there are myriad causes of graft loss, management of patients at the time of graft failure often entails numerous acute treatment considerations as well as long-term care planning.
