Is the “Nutritional Risk Index for Japanese Hemodialysis” Validated as a Nutritional and Prognostic Indicator?

I read with interest the recent article by Mori et al. published in the Journal of Renal Nutrition,1 in which they investigated whether malnutrition, evaluated using the Nutritional Risk Index for Japanese Hemodialysis (NRI-JH), could predict infection- and cardiovascular disease–related hospitalizations and subsequent death. Therein, the NRI-JH was independently associated with the risk of infection-related and subsequent death; however, it was associated with death after cardiovascular disease-related hospitalization alone.
