Echoes of a Silent Storm

My weekend siesta was interrupted by an unusual call on a rainy Sunday morning. As I rushed to answer, the reality of my work in a tertiary care center in eastern India serving those from low socioeconomic backgrounds weighed heavily. The ICU resident had placed me on a consult for a 38-year-old woman who was admitted with acute kidney injury and reduced urine output. She had been brought in after experiencing seizures, one at home and another in the emergency department. Her blood pressure surged to 200/120mm Hg, and her feet were swollen with edema.
