Improved Survival in Patients Receiving Hemodialysis Through Changes in Practice Patterns: Does This Apply to Your Country?
Kidney registry data from different parts of the world have shown that survival of patients receiving hemodialysis (HD) has significantly improved over the past decades.1 Despite this improvement, the life expectancy of patients receiving dialysis is still approximately only one-third when compared to the general population.1,2 It is therefore important to identify factors that may have contributed to the increased survival of patients receiving HD, as they may lead to opportunities for further improvement of HD survival.
