Blood Pressure Control and the Prevention of Incident CKD: The Disconnect Between Cohort Studies and Randomized Trials

In the general population, the association of hypertension with cardiovascular disease and mortality is well recognized. Several studies also draw the association of hypertension with incident chronic kidney disease (CKD); however, data associating blood pressure (BP) to incident CKD have limitations. Most often, single measurements of BP have been linked to incident CKD. In this issue of AJKD, Park et al1 report the association of the cumulative systolic and diastolic BP loads with the risk of incident CKD.
