Obesity has become one of the most challenging global public health problems. The prevalence of obesity has steadily increased in adults, school-aged children, and adolescents worldwide from 1990 to 2022.1 In the United States, the age-adjusted prevalence of obesity in adults aged 20 years and over was 42.5% in 2017-2018, according to data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. In 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention2,3 reported a prevalence of obesity around 33.3% in adults aged 18 years and older.
