Clinical Characteristics and Prognosis of Genetic Focal Segment Glomerulosclerosis

Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a pathological lesion characterized by focal segmental sclerosis with foot process effacement. The etiology of FSGS is complex, with clinical manifestations ranging from varying degrees of proteinuria to progressive kidney failure.1,2 According to the KDIGO 2021 clinical practice guideline,3 FSGS is categorized into primary FSGS, genetic FSGS, secondary FSGS, and FSGS of undetermined cause. Genetic FSGS is defined as FSGS caused by pathogenic variants.
