Improving the quality of care delivered to patients receiving maintenance dialysis and reducing their cost of care are central focuses for patients, providers, and payers. While numerous quality measures are employed throughout the dialysis and kidney care spaces, the most important for patients and clinicians are hospitalizations and survival. Hospitalizations also portend significant financial burden. In 2021, one-third of Medicare spending for beneficiaries with end-stage kidney disease was for inpatient care.
