Diet is Foundational to the Management of Chronic Kidney Disease

Data support that diet is the single greatest disease-related risk factor for death and disability in individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD).1 We know that a “healthy” diet in those with CKD, specifically a diet high in fruits and vegetables (F + Vs), is associated with reduced all-cause2 and cardiovascular3-5 mortality. We know that the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet is proportionately high in F + Vs6 and improves hypertension,7 the major comorbid factor in patients with CKD.
