Insulin Management in Patients With Diabetes Receiving Hemodialysis: Unanswered Questions and Way Forward
The paradigm of type 2 diabetes management has shifted from a primary focus on controlling hyperglycemia to prioritizing the prevention of diabetes complications, including acute complications of severe hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia as well as chronic microvascular and macrovascular disease.1,2 Clinical practice guidelines therefore recommend the preferential use of glucose-lowering medications that reduce patients’ risks of cardiovascular disease, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, weight gain, hypoglycemia, and death.
