Nutritional Management of Patients With Both Chronic Kidney Disease and Cancer
The incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 3 and beyond in patients with cancer varies between 12 and 25%, depending on the cohort studied and the type of cancer or chemotherapy administered to the patient.1 Exposure to various nephrotoxic medications, diagnostic imaging contrast media, and cancer-related comorbidities lead to episodes of clinical and subclinical acute kidney injury (AKI) with recurrent episodes of AKI contributing to progression to CKD.2,3
