Unmasking Disparities in Kidney Replacement Therapy Among Young Patients—A Call to Action

Decades of medical literature have demonstrated large, persistent racial and ethnic disparities in kidney replacement therapies (KRT) and clinical outcomes for persons with kidney failure.1,2 Despite national efforts to improve the quality of dialysis delivery, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Quality Improvement Program and Prospective Payment System (PPS)3 as well as United Network for Organ Sharing changes in kidney allocation,4 significant gaps in care persist for minority persons.
