Frailty is a clinical condition associated with a high risk of mortality and health care costs and is increasingly recognized as a prominent issue in patient care.1-3 The conditions involve physical and psychological components, and affected persons are in a vulnerable state with decreased functional capacity and an elevated risk of adverse health outcomes, particularly when faced with stress-inducing events.1-3 In the general population frailty is a recognized feature of aging, while in patients with kidney disease it is considered an independent risk factor for functional decline irrespective of age.
