I have been a renal dietitian for 24 years. I have seen many changes in the field of renal nutrition during this time. I will never forget how shocked I was when I heard a presentation by Dr Shivam Joshi at National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Spring Clinical Meetings that talked about the benefits of having patients with kidney disease increase their intake of whole grains, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and legumes. At the conclusion of his talk, a renal dietitian stood up and told her story. She had chronic kidney disease caused by lupus.
