For a decade, from 2007 to 2016, we had the privilege of leading AJKD. This period was a time of social and scientific progress and challenges, both in the world and for AJKD, transforming perceptions and assumptions of new possibilities. In the United States, Nancy Pelosi became the first woman Speaker of the House and Barack Obama the first Black US president, same-sex marriage became a reality, and the Chicago Cubs became baseball’s World Series champions again after more than 100 years. Across the world, events as diverse as the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and the Arab Spring highlighted the power of instant communication and social media.
